The Plumes is a tubescreamer clone with some extra features: more expansive clipping options, wider tonal range, and more gain. An improvement, really. Unfortunately, it did not work for my setup at all. It cuts out most of the lows and it flubs out whenever I move down to the lower registers, creating some very unflattering, harsh distortion. I had heard tale of people falling in love with this drive pedal, having it overcome all of their low–medium gain overdrives, and even kicking their Palisades off their boards. I was especially interested in that last data point, as I could pick up the Plumes and flip the Palisades and come out ahead ~100 bucks. For all its flexibility, I was growing increasingly less excited about the Palisades and settled on essentially one setting that I really liked, and if I could coax out that same tone from the Plumes I'd be set. At the end of the day, though, I wasn't able to quite find that tone with the Plumes, and after spending some more time with the Palisades I realized that it'll always have a place in my setup in some capacity.
